About the Employee Giving Campaign

Through the Employee Giving Campaign, faculty and staff can contribute to a host of local agencies supported by the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership and Duke University Health System

Duke employees have generously donated to many programs including the City of Medicine Academy, a project of Duke Medicine and the Office of Community Relations, as described below.

City of Medicine Academy:  How You Can Help

Community partners, through volunteerism and charitable giving, may choose to help support the mission of the City of Medicine Academy (CMA).  There are two main ways for Duke Employees to support the CMA: volunteering and financial support. Volunteering can take many forms: internships, mentoring, guest lectures, or field trips.

If you are interested in assisting the Academy through these and other opportunities, please contact Kimberly Monroe at  kimberly.monroe@duke.edu or by calling (919) 681-4041.

Financial support can take the form of donations through the Duke Community Engagement – Employee Giving Campaign. You can use this link to make a donation:   http://community.duke.edu/employee_giving/index.php

Donations will be used to help offset costs associated with work-based learning experiences sponsored by Duke Medicine.

City of Medicine Academy Summer Internship Program
In July 2009, Duke Medicine hosted a summer internship program for a select number of students from the City of Medicine Academy.  Eleven students participated in the program.  Ten students were placed at Duke Hospital and one was placed at Durham Regional Hospital .  In addition to working on individual projects, the student interns had a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a health care setting and learn first-hand from health care professionals about potential health care careers.
