FAQs

1.  What do you do?

As part of Duke Medicine, the Office of Community Relations (OCR) strives to improve health care and health care access by partnering with community groups and agencies.  The OCR helps to inform the public about Duke Medicine programs by maintaining liaisons with local and regional civic leaders, local government agencies, and civic organizations as well as helping plan tours to orient community groups to the health system.

By fostering community partnerships, OCR helps create awareness of Durham as a better place to live, and Duke as a quality employer and facility for outstanding heath care.  The OCR encourages Duke employees to participate in activities at local schools, social and civic organizations, and other community events where appropriate, working to establish good will among Duke Medicine and the people of the region.

The OCR administers the Goodwill and Charitable Grants Programs at Duke Medicine.  (For further information, see the Charitable Grants section on this website.)

Further, the OCR works with local and state elected officials and other community leaders to address community issues.
